The outstanding problem confronting the jewish centers of the country in the immediate future is the reintegration of the returning veteran to Jewish communal life, Benjamin Rabinowitz of New York, director of the Jewish center division of the National Jewish Welfare Board, told 500 lay and professional leaders of Jewish centers in this part of the country attending the 35th annual convention of the New England section of the National Jewish Welfare Board at the Hotel Kimball here.
Other major tasks which will require Jewish center leadership, Mr. Rabinowitz declared, were the place of Jewish youth in community life; the necessity to work with other segments of community life to eliminate inter-racial tensions and the development of a unified program for Jewish communal life on a national as well as a local level.
Mr. Rabinowitz described the many war activities which the Jewish Welfare Board has carried out as a member agency of USO and predicted that the progress in interfaith relations developed during the war would be continued. He said that the JWB was exploring the possibility of organizing a worldwide federation of Jewish youth organizations, a number of which are already in existence in England, Canada, Australia and South America.
