Release of bank accounts of Palestine Arab refugees blocked in Israel banks will commence on March 1, the Israel Government announced today, Payments to the Arab depositors will be made at the rate of 50 pounds monthly through Barclays Bank and the Ottoman Bank. The Israel Government has provided one million pounds for the first payments which, it is believed, will cover the claims of a majority of the Arab refugees.
The United Nations Works and Relief Agency for Palestine will distribute application forms to the refugees seeking release of blocked funds in Israel. For the purposes of this transaction, a refugee has been defined as one who on Nov. 29, 1947 lived in that part of Palestine which now forms part of Israel or who left Israel territory prior to Sept. 1, 1948.
