Religious and lay leaders from all parts of the country today witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations’ new national headquarters, the Berg Memorial-House of Living Judaism, which took place here.
Funds for the purchase of the site and the construction of the new seven-story building were provided by the National Federation of Temple Sisterhoods’ House of Living Judaism Campaign and the extraordinary gift made by Dr. Albert A. Berg, noted New York surgeon and philanthropist. The Union of American Hebrew Congregations receives funds for its religious, cultural and interfaith activities from the Combined Campaign of the Union and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion.
