Religious groups joined with members of Congress in calling on President Clinton and Congress to pay the U.S. debt to the United Nations. A letter sent by the Emergency Coalition for U.S. Financial Support of the U.N., which includes several Jewish organizations, warns that as the world’s biggest debtor to the United Nations, to which it owes more than $1 billion in past dues, the United States is undermining its “ability to promote democratic values and ensure universal human rights.”
