The bill which was introduced in the New Jersey Legislature by Assemblyman Rittenhouse according to which public school pupils would have been permitted to be absent from classes two hours a week in order to obtain religious instruction was defeated Tuesday in the Assembly. Several Assemblymen expressed the fear that the passing of the bill would result in denominational friction.
