Jewish religious teaching and instruction in the Hebrew language and Jewish history will be continued in Jewish schools after the schools have become part of the state educational system under the impending program for nationalization of schools, Hungarian Minister for Education Gyula Ortutay told Dr. I. Singalowsky, executive chairman of the World ORT Union. Dr. Singalowsky arrived here to inspect ORT schools and to cooperate with Hungarian Jewish leaders and educational authorities in working out a program for retraining unemployed Jews.
Singalowsky and Ortutay discussed the possibility of exempting Jewish schools from nationalization, but the latter insisted that exemption of Jewish schools would provoke further anti-Semitism. The Minister praised the ORT schools, which will not be nationalized. An official in the Ministry for Industry also praised the ORT training set-up and promised to provide machinery to aid in the establishment of four new ORT centers.
