The remains of Carlo and Nello Roselli, Italian anti-fascist leaders who were assassinated by Benito Mussolini’s agents in France in 1937, were placed in their final resting place this week in the Jewish section of the cemetery at Florence.

President Luigi Einaudi and Foreign Minister Carlo Sforza were among the hundreds of representatives of Italian cultural and political life participating in the services. Raffaele Cantoni, president of the Union of Jewish Communities of Italy, was present and Jewish burial services were recited at the graves. The Rossellis, who came from a distinguished Italian Jewish family, were among the first opponents of the Mussolini regime.
