The French military authorities in Austria have ?dered the most stringent border control at the Austro-Italian and the Austro-German frontiers in the French zone, in order to prevent further "illegal" travel of Jewish groups from Austria, it was revealed here during the week-end.
The French move followed a British protest regarding the continuing trans##artation of Jewish refugees through Austria to ports where they hope to sail for Palestine. French sources deny that the move is an unfriendly act toward Jews. They ##sert it is the result of a recent incident in a DP camp near Inusbruck where one DP #s killed during a fight between two groups of Jews–one led by extremists and the other by the Haganah.Newly arrived groups of Rumanian Jews are temporarily stranded in Vienna. transports into the United States zone so far have been halted because of housing and eating difficulties in DP camps in that zone.
Two Canadian missions have arrived in Austria to select immigrants for Canada among the DP’s and refugees. The micsions will chocse 950 textile workers, ?alf of the number to be Jews. They are scheduled to leave for Canada in December.
