Rene Fould, son of Alphonse Fould, who supplied the steel for construction of the Eiffel Tower in 1889, has been compelled under the newly proclaimed “Jewish Law” to resign his post as chairman of the executive board of the Chantiers Ateliers at St. Nazaire, the leading naval construction company in France, it was announced today at a meeting of the shareholders of the company. Andre Levy, vice chairman and general manager similarly withdrew from the company, it was announced.
Fould had been in the service of the company for more than 37 years. Levy had been with the firm for 20 years. Members of the Board of Directors, in accepting the resignations stated that the two executives “have rendered the most devoted and valuable services at the most difficult hours for the concern.”
