The anti-Jewish excesses threatened by Hungarian students in the conflict between the Minister of Education and the Budapest University Senate were begun yesterday.
Shouting, “We again have too many Jews,” the hooligan students invaded the classrooms of the department of economic science and the technical institute, beating and throwing out the Jewish students found there. The majority of the Jewish students, warned by the placards, had remained away from their classes.
Three of the Jewish students were so severely beaten that they were taken to hospitals unconscious. The immediate cause for the riots was the admission into the university of eight Jewish girl students who received high marks in their secondary schools. They were admitted at the demand of Count Klebelsberg.
The University authorities declared today that they will institute a system compelling every student entering the classrooms to show his identification card, the implication being that non-students are responsible for the attacks.
NON-ZIONIST CONFERENCE ON PALESTINE OPENS
Four hundred leading Jews from all parts of the United States were present at the sessions of the Non-Zionist Conference on Palestine which opened Saturday night, October 20, at the Hotel Biltmore.
Lours Marshall. Dr. Claim Weizmann, Lord Melchett, Felix M. Warburg and Dr. Lee K. Frankel addressed the conference.
