The sudden influx of German-Jewish immigration to Palestine, adding to the housing shortage which already was acute, has caused the government to take measures to prevent landlords from exploiting the situation. Upon initiative from Jerusalem, the municipality of Tel Aviv has issued an ordinance similar to a war-time measure, extending the tenancy agreements for apartments and shops for another year. The municipality responded to the strong pressure of public opinion to prevent an exorbitant rise in rentals.
