Rep. Emanuel Celler of New York has been elected chairman of the board of directors of the American Red Mogen Dovid for Israel, the organization announced today. Congressman Celler held the same post in 1948 when Israel was fighting against seven invading Arab armies.
Rep. Celler called on Americans of “every race and religion” to help the Red Mogen Dovid in its program of dealing with Israel’s medical emergency, and pledged to do his utmost to secure recognition of the organization by the International Red Cross, which last July ignored the latest Red Mogen Dovid bid for membership because the organization refused to give up the Star of David as its symbol.
