Rep. Robert Drinan (D. Mass.) has called on the Soviet Union to release imprisoned dissident Anatoly Shcharansky now “as a sign of good will and an effort to cool growing East-West tensions” on the eve of the opening of the Olympic Games in Moscow. Drinan joined approximately 100 people at the daily vigil outside the Soviet Embassy here Monday which marked the second anniversary of the sentencing of Shcharansky. Drinan is chairman of the International Committee for the Release of Anatoly Shcharansky. He met the dissident in the USSR in 1975 when Shcharansky served as his guide and interpreter.
