Rep. Francis E. Walter, chairman of the House Immigration Subcommittee, who recently proposed that the United States, through the Intergovernmental Committee on European Migration, assist Jewish refugees from North Africa to get to Israel, conferred today with S.Z. Shragai Jewish Agency immigration head, on problems of immigration and absorption of North African Jews in this country. Rep. Walter, who arrived in Israel from Jordan yesterday, also conferred with Mr. Shragai yesterday.
He is scheduled to meet with Premier Moshe Sharett during his nine-day visit. Later today, he will travel to the Jerusalem Corridor, to see immigrant settlements recently established here. He is accompanied by Rep. Ruth Thompson, a member of his committee, and Walter Bersterman, advisor to the subcommittee.
