The American Jewish Conference On Soviet Jewry said today that it had received an unconfirmed report that 92 Jews were arrested in Moscow in an attempt to deliver a petition to the Communist Party Central Committee this morning. The 92 Jews had come from six cities, and had been arrested after a delegation of five had gone inside the party headquarters. At least ten others from Kaunaus, Lithuania were taken from a train on the way to Moscow and several others were picked up in Moscow streets. The group was held for six hours and questioned in a “sobering up station” used primarily for inebriates. The report stated that 62 were released and 30 are still being held. The AJCSJ is attempting to confirm this report through its contacts in the Soviet Union.
