Argentina is negotiating the purchase at 22 Mirage jets from Israel in order to rebuild its Air Force after losing the war with Britain over the Falkland Islands last June, it was reported by the English-language daily, the Buenos Aires Herald.
During the recently concluded war, the Air Force was the only branch of the Argentine military that performed effectively, albeit with great losses. As its toll of lost planes mounted, Argentina procured 10 Mirages from Peru which it incorporated into its air offensive along with the Israeli Kfir and the French Super-Entendard jets, outfitted with Execet missiles.
