Dr. Mayer, an inspector in the department of antiquities, has been named to the chair of art and archaeology of the Hebrew University, it is reported here today.
The chair of art and archaeology was only recently created and was announced last month at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the Hebrew University held in London. The chair was established through a gift of Sir Percival David for a period of eight years. The chair is named for Sir Sasoon David, his father.
At the London meeting of the Board of Governors, where the establishment of the chair was announced on August 16, it was indicated that a suitable incumbent had already been found.
