Lieutenant Colonel Theodore Dusterberg, former Stahlhelm leader and 1932 Nationalist candidate for Reichspresident whom the Nazis expelled from public life when it was learned he was of Jewish descent, was among those who died during Hitler’s “purification” of his ranks, Johannes Steel wrote in a copyright story in the New York Post yesterday. The Post claims to have either at hand or in course of preparation the names of 2,000 persons slain by the Nazis on or since June 30.
Doubt was cast on the Post report of Dusterberg’s death, however, when the Jewish Telegraphic Agency learned from an authentic source that he reputedly was seen at the funeral of General Kurt von Scheicher, former German Chancellor, who, along with his wife, was among the casualties officially reported in the Nazi obituary list.
In July reports were received from Germany that Dusterberg had been arrested by Hitler’s picked guards and thrown into a concentration camp near Dachau.
