Victorian Goga, poet and a leading anti-Semite, will shortly be named Minister of the Interior by King Carol, it is generally understood in political circles here.

In preparation for assuming office, it is reliably reported that Goga has already submitted to Carol a draft of a revised constitution involving elections for a new Parliament in the Fall, if the King agrees, and a distinct turn towards the right with consequent emphasis on anti-Semitic policies.

That anti-Semitism will play a role in the new government’s policy, if Goga joins the cabinet, is clearly indicated by his last country-wide lecture tour during which he continuously urged Roumania to “awaken against Jewish domination.”

In a speech at Jassy, Undersecretary of the Interior Victor Iamandi told a meeting of liberals that some Jews were financing the extreme right parties of Roumania. He asserted that he had discovered connections between radical elements of the parties and certain Jews.

The Iamandi statement created a sensation among Roumanian Jewry. Many leaders of the Jewish community here believe, however, that it is Iamandi’s intention, through these statements, to throw into disrepute the right radicals by charging them with having Jewish connections.
