El Liwaa, Arab daily, reported today that the British Colonial Office has named a military director of public works to carry out plans for a channel between Gaza, on the Mediterranean, and El Akaba, Red Sea port.
The channel would be of great war time value, serving as an alternative route from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea in the event that the Suez Canal were blockaded.
