Curieroul Israelit, official organ of the Rumanian Jews, denied today a report published in Curentul, ecclesiastical paper, that 200 prominent Jews had sought conversion to the Greek Catholic faith and had offered to build a church.
Curieroul declared the report was absolutely false and emanated from sources which wished to cast a shadow on the “solidarity” of Rumanian Jewry. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent learned that apart from conversion of two more or less well known Jews there had been no recent conversions worth mentioning, also that expanding anti-Semitism in Rumania had had the opposite effect of making the Jews more conscious of their origin and religion.
