Reports that the Rumanian authorities ordered all members of Zionist groups to move from the cities of Bucharest, Jassy, Timisoaro and Cluj into “pale” areas of Dobraj and Altenia were termed today “absurd” in authoritative quarters here.
“These reports are typical of the slander conducted against the present regime and deserve no official denial,” the Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent was told. The reports were published in the Jewish press abroad.
The fact that all local Zionist leaders are at present in Bucharest proves that the reports have no basis, it was pointed out. The reports said that the Rumanian secret political police has compiled a list of all members of all Zionist groups in Rumania for the purpose of “transferring” the Zionists and their families from the larger cities into isolated districts where they could be kept under constant police observation.
