Israeli political observers have suggested that this new arrangement may have resulted from Syrian leader General Hafez Assad’s recent trip to Moscow. According to the reports, Russia has also supplied the Syrians with SAM-3s, but Israeli political circles expressed doubts as to the veracity of this statement.
