Representatives of several U.S. Jewish organizations were expected to attend a screening at the White House on Wednesday night of Showtime’s “Varian’s War: A Forgotten Hero,” according to Variety magazine. The film is about the American Varian Fry, who risked his life while rescuing French artists, including Marc Chagall, from the Nazi-backed Vichy French government during World War II.
