Representatives of twelve Pennsylvania Jewish communities met here to discuss social work problems. The “Survival of Jewish Institutions and Jewish Social Service” was discussed by Rabbi Max Artz and Mrs. L. Albert Liveright, Secretary of Welfare of the State of Pennsylvania, spoke on “Public Relief as It Affects Jewish Organization.” Other speakers included Rabbi Philip D. Bookstaber of Harrisburg; Harry L. Lurie, director of the New York Bureau of Jewish Social Research; Professor Israel A. Abrams, superintendent of the Pittsburgh Hebrew Institute, and George W. Rabinoff, executive director of the National Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds.
A resolution was passed pledging support to the forthcoming campaign of the Joint Distribution Committee. A committee to plan future activities was appointed with Paul Goldblatt, of Harrisburg, chairman. Other members include Dr. Ludwig Bernstein, Pittsburgh; William Hirsch, Philadelphia; Mrs. Julius Frank, Reading; Mrs. Lurio, Lancaster, and Mrs. Hattie Mechlowitz, Scranton.
