Representatives of West Berlin’s cultural life and government early this month honored the 250th anniversary of the birth of Moses Mendelssohn, the Jewish philosopher who was a leader of the German Jewish community, proponent of Jewish emancipation and a pioneer of the enlightenment period. Mendelssohn, who was born in Dessau, lived in Berlin from 1743 until his death in 1786.
