Republicans in Congress defeated two measures to end proselytizing at the Air Force Academy. Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), who introduced the resolutions, said he didn’t expect such fierce resistance. “Many of my colleagues appeared to believe that the problem is not people who are coercing one religious view over another, the problem is the people who are complaining about being coerced,” Israel told JTA on Wednesday.
