Prof. Kulczynski, who resigned as rector of Lwow University when “ghetto benches” for Jewish students were introduced over his objections, explained in an open letter today that he had refused to be terrorized by a “certain political party.”
Declaring that university rectors were helpless against the terroristic methods employed by the party (the National Democratic Party), Prof. Kulczynski wrote: “Utilization of universities for party purposes and blackmail is destroying the autonomy of universities and is undermining the freedom of science without which science cannot exist.”
