Resolutions have been introduced in the Senate and the House urging the U.S. to express to relevant governments its concern for the Jews in Ethiopia and particularly “their right to emigrate.”
A resolution was introduced this week by Sens. Paul Tsongas (D. Mass.) and Charles Percy (R. III.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. A similar resolution was introduced in the House by Reps. Stephen Solarz (D. NY) and Barney Frank (D. Mass.). The resolutions express “the concern of the American people for the welfare of the Ethiopian Jewish community.”
In addition to the resolutions, Congressmen have been urging the Reagan Administration to increase aid to drought stricken parts of Ethiopia. One of the worst hit areas in Gondar province where most Ethiopian Jews live.
