Mahmoud Riad, United Arab Republic permanent representative to the United Nations, said today that one of the aims of the new federation of Egypt, Syria and Iraq is to bring back into Israel all of the Arab refugees. He made that statement in reply to a question at a luncheon of the United Nations Correspondents Association.
“When we talk of Arab unity,” he said, “we believe that one day we can come to a real solution of the Palestine problem when the real owners of that land–the refugees–can go back to their own country.”
Mr. Riad made a long statement in which he acknowledged that German scientists are at work in Egypt. However, he maintained, they are working only on the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes and on the development of Egypt’s own Jet planes. On the other hand, he accused Israel of developing the use of atomic energy for war purposes, declaring that Israel may have ready by this year enough material to manufacture one atomic bomb every year.
