The World Union of Zionist Revisionists opened its congress here yesterday in the presence of a throng of visitors.
The opening addresses were delivered by Vladimir Jabotinsky, head of the Revisionist Union and Meier Grossman, its vice president.
Greetings were extended by the Jewish Community of Vienna, and other Jewish organizations, including the Austrian Zionist Committee.
In a two hour address, Mr. Jabotinsky vehemently protested against what he described as England’s anti-Jewish policy.
Britain’s policy, he asserted, is converting the Balfour declaration into an anti-Zionist system with the resulting transformation of Jerusalem into a Pan Islam centre.
This, he asserted, is occurring despite the fact that all the nations renounced claims of conquest to Palestine, out of their regard for the return of the Jews to their homeland, as a sacred task of humanity. England, according to Mr. Jabotinsky, has now forfeited the right to exercise the mandate.
Among the Jews and the civilized conscience of the world, the impression is growing that England has forfeited its ethical mandate and is using the Jewish people for its colonial intrigues.
England, he stated, knows that the regime in force will not endure in the new era.
Prior to the formal opening of the sessions, the delegates to the conference made a pilgrimage to the grave of Theodor Herzl.
The pilgrimage was led by Mr. Jabotinsky and members of the Executive.
The marchers numbered thousands and were flanked by members of the “Haganah,” the Revisionist sports organization.
A small police cordon was on guard to prevent possible disturbances.
