Revisionists Demand Extra Zionist Congress and Z. O. Executive’s Resignation

A demand for an extra world Zionist Congress this year and the resignation of the world Zionist Executive is voiced in the political resolution adopted by the fourth world conference of the Union of Zionist Revisionists today just before it adjourned after an all-night session.

Should the demands of the Revisionists fail and the same Executive be selected at the extra Congress if called, the conference authorized the Revisionist Executive to take some definite action or to call a special world conference for such a purpose. The political resolution, submitted by M. Machover, and read by Dr. Robert Lichtheim declared, “The occurrences of last year demonstrate the complete breakdown of the politics of the Zionist leadership. The Revisionists warned the last Zionist Congress and their tender of cooperation was ignored. Notwithstanding the political debacle and the catastrophe in Palestine the leadership pursues the same policy. The conference proclaims that the Zionist Executive has forfeited its political prerogative by transferring its authority to the Jewish Agency which is not recognized by the Revisionists”.

The political declaration also denounced the activities of the English officials in Palestine and bitterly criticized the indifference of the British government to the fulfillment of the Balfour Declaration. It also emphasized the Jewish National Home as meaning a Jewish state with a Jewish majority and with the full cooperation of the British government in colonization.

The all-night session was devoted to the discussion and adoption of the various resolutions and reports of committees. The resolution advocated by B. Weinstein of Palestine calling for the creation of independent labor unions in Palestine to compete with the General Federation of Jewish Labor was adopted. This resolution was carried despite bitter opposition on the part of Mordecai Danzis, the only American delegate, Dr. Jacob Hoffman from Latvia and M. Klinoff.

The conference adjourned after enthusiastic speeches by Vladimir Jabotinsky, Meer Grossman and Dr. S. E. Soskin. Mr. Jabotinsky termed the conference “a great event in Jewish life. It is a further rejuvenation of the Zionist movement and a sign that the Jewish youth are with us.” Meer Grossman, in his closing remarks, indicated the great growth of the movement.

Vladimir Jabotinsky was reelected president of the Union of Zionist Revisionists and Dr. Robert Lichtheim of Germany and Meer Grossman of England were named vice-presidents.

In a statement to the press at the conclusion of the conference Mr. Jabotinsky said, “The conference showed that a new generation of Jews is growing. A new Zionism must be created. Herzlian Zionism that had been crushed has been brought back by Revisionism. We have covered much ground from Vienna to Prague. We keep marching on.”
