Governor General Priclis Rhallis today issued a statement condemning the attempt of anti-Semitic elements to “create a pogrom atmosphere” in the city.
The governor was outspoken in his denunciation of the “criminal anti-Semitic incitement carried on by the Students League, and the reorganized EEE (Greek Nazis) which are attempting to create a pogrom atmosphere similar to that of the Campbell affair in 1931.”
Anti-Semitic agitation in Greece has been encouraged by the political party headed by former Premier Elutherios Venizelos, which bitterly opposed the plan of Premier Tsaldaris’ government to abolish the separate electoral college for Jews. This was the only question in which he was opposed to the Jews, M. Venizelos declared.
Since that time a deal has been consummated between the government forces providing for retention of the separate electoral college for Jews and the re-election of President Alexander Zai### Anti-Semitic agitation, however continues.
