Rhine-westphalian Police Officials Held on War Crimes Charges

The head of the political police in Oberhausen, Criminal Commissioner Lacks, has been arrested on charges of participation in mass executions during the war, it was learned today.

The Chief Criminal Commissioner of Dusseldorf, M. Jung, has been given a leave of absence pending inquiry into similar charges made against him.

The Public Workers Union said here today that a ranking officer in the North Rhine-Westphalia criminal police had been suspended from duty allegedly for having concealed his membership in the S.S. and for having posed as a victim of Nazism.

The North Rhine-Westphalia criminal police were reported today to have concluded investigation of 500 police officers who served in two police battalions under the Nazis.
