It may never be possible to present this problem comprehensively to the American because it all depends or whther Germany, in handling this problem, may not be able to differentiate between Jews who have long been resident in Germany and those who have migrated from the East during recent years. This is the crux of the problem and the point which Americans may least understand.
“For myself, I shall declare and reiterate when I return to America that no Jew need be uneasy about events in Germany. I have, with my own eyes, seen that business is really comparatively good in Jewish firms and shops. The reassurance which went around the world because of the Chancellor’s speech long ago came to Germany. And peace alone can bring business— all Americans understand this,” he declared.
