Henry Morgenthau, former American Ambassador to Turkey, and former head of an American Government Commission to investigate anti-Semitism in Poland in 1918, is ridiculed by the anti-Semitic National Democratic organ “Illustrowany Kurier Codzienny”, in connection with the reports that he may be named American Ambassador to Germany.
The paper recalls his mission to Poland in 1918 and asks whether Mr. Morgenthau, if he becomes Ambassador, will investigate anti-Jewish persecutions ### the Nazis in Germany, on in###rmation supplied by Nazi Ministers
The paper expresses the hope that Mr. Morgenthau’s mission to Germany will prove no less a failure than his mission to Poland.
The “Moment”, commenting upon the attack, points out that Mr. Morgenthau was a close collaborator of President Wilson’s and exercised great influence on him in connection with the Peace Treaty negotiations, which assured Poland her independence.
Only last year, says the “Moment”, Mr. Morgenthau delivered in New York an address which was favorable to Poland. It deplores the attack upon Mr. Morgenthau.
