ALL THE POLISH PEASANTS OF THE VILLAGE OF TATOWICZ IN THE PROVINCE OF SARNA, WERE UNDER “SENTENCE” TODAY TO GUARD THE HOMES OF THE JEWISH INHABITANTS AGAINST VIOLENCE.
THIS WAS THE COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT IMPOSED BY THE DISTRICT GOVERNOR AFTER AN ANTI-SEMITIC ATTACK IN WHICH THE HOMES OF ALL THIRTEEN JEWISH FAMILIES WERE SMASHED UP. THE GOVERNOR PRESCRIBED A COMPULSORY NIGHT WATCH, THREE PEASANTS BEING DETAILED TO GUARD EACH JEWISH HOUSE ALL NIGHT.
