Progress toward amalgamation of Schochtim Union Local 440 and the Vaad Shochtim Oifes, rival poultry slaughterers’ organizations, was made at the first conference of a board of arbitration in the office of Arthur Simon, impartial chairman, 130 Centre street, yesterday.
The Vaad Shochtim Oifes spokesman, Rabbi Moses Rothenberg, stated four demands of his group:
(1). Amalgamation into one union.
(2). An employment bureau for shochtim.
(3). Six representatives of the Vaad on the Local 440 executive committee.
(4). Continuance of the arbitration board for three years.
The board will meet tonight at the Hotel Commodore.
