Ambassador David Rivlin, the Consul General of Israel, called on American Jews today “to tighten even more the bonds between the Jewish diaspora and the land of Israel which is destined to be the central focal point of Jewish life and interest.”

In a Rosh Hashana greeting, the Israeli diplomat said: “At the outset of the second quarter century of our Statehood in the land of our forefathers, we derive encouragement and inspiration from the past achievements in all spheres of our life and look ahead with confidence into the future, fully aware of the challenges with which we shall still have to cope but certain of both our determination and abilities to meet them.”

Continuing, Rivlin said: “Living as we are, under the spell of all the miracles and wonders that our generation has been privileged to witness in the recent past, we are also imbued with the deep sense of responsibility for the continuation of the awesome tasks of the security of the State of Israel, the country’s economic development, the immigration and the absorption in a home of freedom of our brethren who come to us from lands of bondage as well as the free countries and the tremendous work to be done in the fields of social improvement, education and culture.

“In this light,” he added, “we stand today united to take stock of our aspirations as well as our achievements and to commit ourselves to forge ahead into a future of great opportunities for our people.”
