Jewish preyyer books replaced Christian hymn books in the pews of the First Christian Church here Sunday, when for the first time in northwest church hitory an entire Jewish service was conducted in a Christian church.
The substitution was made when Rabbi Samuel Koch, Seattle’s only reform spiritual leader, occupied the pulpit of the church, led the congregration of Christian worshippers in Jewish prayers and directed a choir which regularly sings at Temple de Hirsch, Seattle’s only reform synagogue.
Arranged for the purpose of promoting good will between Jews and Christians, the services were entirely Jewish and took the place or of the regular Sunday morning worship at the church.
Neither the Rev. Dr.Marvin O. Sansbury, pastor of the church and a leading Seattle clergyman nor members of the church’s choir or congregatin participated in the services, except as sworshippers.
