Robert Briscoe, former Lord Mayor of Dublin, and the only Jewish member of the Dail, the lower house of the Irish Parliament, said here today that he will not run in next year’s Parliamentary elections.
Mr. Briscoe, who was first elected to the Dail in 1927, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that: “I shall be 70 next September, and I don’t want to go on until I am too old for the job–it is time to stand down and make room for other people.”
Mr. Briscoe, who served twice as Lord Mayor of Dublin, is a lifelong Zionist.
