The million dollar drive for the Jewish Young Men’s and Women’s Association was over-subscribed by $28,478, it was announced at the conclusion of the campaign marked by a dinner at the Powers Hotel. The culmination of the campaign came a day in advance of the scheduled date of closing. Contributions were received from 6,398 persons.
Simon W. Stein, who contributed $250,000 toward the campaign, acted as chairman. Associated with him were Sol Heuman, Henry M. Stern and Abraham H. Neisner, chairman of the building committee.
The funds are to be used to purchase a site upon which will be crected a seven-story building to house the two associations. The building will be used as a community center.
