George Rockwell’s American Nazi Party is “withering on the vine,” the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith reported here today. “A steady program of legal prosecution and litigation in several cities in which he has demonstrated has resulted in keeping Rockwell off Washington streets and has caused a wave of defections by some of his closest aides,” the ADL said.
Defection among rank and file members of the Rockwell organization has been a consistent pattern, the ADL reported, but morale has now reached such a low ebb “as a result of Rockwell’s legal problems” that a number of his staunchest supporters have recently walked out on him. The ADL pointed out that the Rockwell group has failed to hold a single demonstration here in several weeks, ascribing the failure to “a virtual depletion of his ranks.”
