Rogers said today that an interim pact providing for the reopening of the Suez Canal was “still a possibility.” Despite obstacles, he told a press conference, “we hope that based on the common factors, something can be worked out this year,” perhaps before the General Assembly opens next Sept. 21. Rogers said the United States welcomes “anyone’s assistance,” including that of the Soviet Union, and in fact would “expect the Soviets to participate at the right time.”
