America today “in search of its higher and truer character must rely, as did the founding fathers of the country, on the fundamental tenets of the Hebraic tradition which is incorporated in western civilization,” Dr. Moshe Davis, Provost of the Jewish Theological Seminary, told 200 delegates attending the 35th national convention of the Histadruth Ivrith America here this week-end.
Describing the role of Hebrew culture and tradition in American history and the necessity of its revival for the nation’s destiny, Dr. Davis traced his remarks back to colonial times when the founding fathers called the traditions of Judaism Hebraic and considered the Jewish people as the physical embodiment of the ideals of Hebrew tradition. Dr. Davis asserted that the Hebrew movement today must accept as one of its greatest forms of service to serve as a bridge between the American past and the American destiny.
