Romanian officials reversed course and acknowledged that the country’s former leaders collaborated in the Holocaust. The Romanian regime during World War II used “methods of discrimination and extermination, which are part of the Holocaust,” a government statement released Tuesday said. The government’s denial last week that any extermination of Jews occurred on Romanian soil unleashed a torrent of criticism from Jewish groups and threats from Israel that diplomatic relations could be affected.
