Faced with the task of appointing a new chief rabbi to succeed Dr. Israel Zolli who embraced Catholicism, the Jewish Community Council of Rome today decided to hold community elections on March 18. The results of the elections will have to be approved by the Allied Military Commission and by the Italian Government.
The elections will be conducted under the direction of three-man board composed of Renzo Levi, Settimo Sorani and Alberto Piperno. The new Council will consist of fifteen persons. Capt. Morris Neufeld of the Allied Military Commission and Jewish chaplains of the American and British armies participated in today’s session of the Council at which the date for the elections was set.
