A call for world public opinion to back Israel’s offer to negotiate a peace settlement with the Arab states was voiced here today by Jacob Mayus, member of the executive committee of the Israel Mapam Party. Mr. Mayus spoke at a public meeting presided over by Carlo Levi, Italian Jewish author.
Mr. Mayus, who has toured France, Germany, Belgium and Italy, reported that everywhere he had found understanding for Israel’s hopes of peace. Denouncing Arab states’ violations of international agreements, Mr. Mayus insisted that only the signing of peace treaties between Israel and the Arab states would solve all pending problems, including that of the Arab refugees.
