An appeal to President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Polish President Wladyslaw Raczkiewicz asking them to consider the mounting starvation among Jews in Nazi-held Poland and to arrange for the shipping of food to them in the same manner as this was done for the starving population in Greece, was cabled from here today by leaders of Polish Jewry who are organized in Palestine in a body representing the interests of the Jews in Poland.
A similar appeal has been cabled by the Chief Rabbi of Palestine, Dr. Isaac Herzog, to the Archbishop of Canterbury, to Cardinal Hinsely and to the head of the Presbyterian church in England.
Reports from the ghettos in occupied Poland reaching Jewish leaders in Palestine continue to emphasize the scarcity of food and the constantly mounting number of deaths from starvation. Even potatoes have become a luxury for Jews. Unless Britain and America permit relief organizations to ship food to the Jews in ghettos, the Jewish population there “will die like flies,” the appeal cabled from here to London and Washington points out.
