Declaring that racial and religious hatreds must be swept from our land for all time to come,” President Franklin D. Roosevelt paid tribute to our war dead in a letter to National Commander Archie H. Greenberg read at the 49th annual Memorial Day services of the Jewish War Veterans of the U. S. held here today at Temple Emanu-El.
The President praised the Jewish War Veterans for commemorating their war dead in keeping with the customs of the faith of Israel as well as with the American tradition honoring the memory of those who have given their lives that freedom may continue to be the portion and inheritance of those who inhabit the land.” He said that the “sacrifices of Americans of all faiths will ever be fresh in the memory of their countrymen.”
